HI,
last week i went to this shop that was recomended by one of our zth members. but after they fixed everthig for me alreadyt i feel that something is wrong with my audio system. here's how it goes.

i got a sony compenent and 2 rear speakers from sony's factory

The compenent is Xs-GS160 that doesnt have a crossover...
http://www.bssonline.co.za/GOODSBIG.ASP?productno=99

and the speaker XS-GF1621X
https://www.sirindia.com/details.asp?productID=10118151

i wanna know how good they are.

the part i hate about them is they wanna charge me 180 to fix it on for me. kinda expensive right? and when i mentioned that i wanted a CHEAP amp they recomended me a korean brand which is called ROCK-A-BILLY

it's a 4 chan amp and i dunno the specs what i got from the amp is

Rock-a-billy
RB-460
1200W P.M.P.O
4 CHan Bridgable MOSFET amp

after a MINOR bargain. they charged me 750 for everthing including fixing up my comps and speakers for me.

what i wanan know now is is they price i paid worth for what i got? and did i get slaughtered?

now my audio has NO BASS AT ALL i'm serious and before i put the amp i only have to tune the volume to 15 to get the loubness i desire but now i have to tune it to 20+ . the boss told it it's like that one so that it would fully utilize the amp's potential ( true or not =.=)

thats all and now i feel like changing the compenents to
soundstream LS.60C - is it worth it compared to my sony comp?
and also a 10-12" sub depending on the price.
cana nyone recomend me one?

u r definitely being chop.....180 for 2 comp set installation? u should check my thread...

i dunno whether the comp set / spk u use are good enuff....but for the amp, it's just a basic amp to drive component set...market price for new in acc shop at most 3++ to
for the bass reduce, the installer may set the bass / crossover to low and Hi pass..u need to set it again..impossible after u add an amp then no bass....

for the SS comp set, i got no comment..just upgrade if u wan..but tune ur amp see it can reach ur expectation before u upgrade

add in a sub is definitely a must for me...although somebody may not like it...

yea. i saw ur thread only after i let them install my comps.
i just found out why my rear has no bass. they missed out the rear left speaker. didn;t connect it with cables. went there and told them.... i asked the boss to quote me a sub . he charged me 500 for a rogers sub including box and instaltion.

i also wanan tune my amp but i am a total noob at ICE.

howie if i were to get a sub myself. can u install it for me + tuning ? including the box. i live in damansara Area

haha, anyway the best is you listen abit from people over here(including me), do more survey first like me. But in summary, a 6.5" speaker won't give you much bass. For a most simple and with some bass, a 6X9 will do the job. If want a more solid one, go for a 200-300watt rms 12" woofer. Brand I will not say here, as somebody said that I mislead newbie over here even i never mention any brand. I have amps and a woofer for sale, pm me if interested. But for the ICE setup you want, don't ever listen to people's opinion on the brands, must see how much money that you want to spend.... Then only you won't regret after this. BTW is you are the guy that listen in your car, not others, as long as you are happy with it, why bother on people's opinion?

well said well said... but i like to give my opinion on the sub... IMHO... 12" sub will slightly not be as solid as a 10" sub... 12" will sound more loud but when it comes to focused sound... it will lose to a 10"... but 10" will not play as loud as a 12" also... i dunno how to explain but this is purely from my experience... so choose wisely towards your own taste...

cheers...

Well, this is depend on the brand of sub and the power. The other point is the box that we use. Also the car boot's size does the matter..

ya.. agreed... some sub need big box... some need small box... all hav to see your application lo... SQ got SQ type of box... SPL got SPL type of box...

to voonz... never buy a ready made sub box... unless you are really on a really really tight budget... custom made them according to thier specs... you wont regret to spend those cash...

cheers...

erm..there's somoe shop do make ready box that follow sub spec..but they onlt make for famous sub and high market needs.....

about the sub and cnclosure, sure can install for u....hehe

alllright!

hello VoonZ, i have to say make sure before you buy any Audio system u have to try urself...u have to listen to the songs you bring no using the shop test disc...then make sure the EQ is flat or OFF setting...then you judge urself ...this is very basic things of judge cause end of the day is you enjoy...other things is dont compare what you have cause in AUDIO it priceless. i say this because i from HIFI guy ....in HIFI world i try 5K system and 10K system they sound the almost the same...in sound quality ...diff is brand and wat they make of....and dont you disco songs or hard rock songs....you cant tell the diff except bass:X-:

True
Due to the reason for a proper setup u must have a high signal to noise ratio in order to get more details. For me it is better for you to achieve like 3/4 of your max volume in order to reach the same loudness as the setup w/out amp. You'll realise that you'll have better details w/out having the system being too loud.

As for the charges, I would prefer you list down jobs and parts involved with the installation. I'm afraid that they do lots of job to get the system done and involved a lot of other parts (eg. cablings, mdf boards, rcas, blablabla)

In my opinion it will be fair to judge them according to that + did you have any noise issue after the installation and their aftersales service eventhough I'm not their client and never install anything from the shop.

for the installtion, i bet they didnt do anything complicated. i provided tham with the 16' comp to replace my waja's 15' stock speaker. it would be fine if they did cut out the board and install it nicely for the price they charged me. but all they did was fix it up and punch a few holes on the board. it's ok with me also if they have done it nicely. BUT today when i close my car door, the driver seat's speaker came out. bloody mofos, slaughter me nvm , but the worksmanship also like crap despite their friendly attitude.
