Hi All,

Not sure anyone here have the problem.
I can smell gasoline outside through my aircon ven.

I was told that the problem is cause by sponge around the aircon unit is loss, will need to replace the sponge with a new unit.

Actually I did that sponge replacement a year ago when I change my cooling coils. The Mech tear out the original sponge (which last for 6 years without any issue) and replace with the current sponge.

my question.

1. Anyone of you experience this? how do you solve it?
2. Do you know an reliable mech to solve this?

I'm looking for a solution that longer lasting. I do not wish to replace the sponge every year. Thanks

..:::Hi blacksamurai,

I facing the same problem like u. And sometimes when i change my air cond setting to remove 'haze', i can see a small part of sponge cames out. n i can see it on my dashboard also.

Yup, i also can smell 'asap' through my aircon ven.

Any solutions yet?

N also, my aircond is not 'cool' anymore.Black car, black interior plus our weather. Its double de heat!!. I expected my compressor already kaput + leaking somewhere. So how much that it goin to cost me (estimated) ?

guys,
I did have the sponge problem last time where I can see it bits by bits fly out of my air con vent. But, no petrol smell like you guys exprienced. I sent it for service and the air con shop change the sponge for me and works perfectly. When I sent in for second service (you guys might want to do this). He advise me to permanently shut off the external duct (where fresh air comes in).

The reason is, everytime when we turn off our car. Coupe air duct will automatically open for external fresh air. This is good but the problem comes when you park under some tree where it has all the tiny leave and debris fall into your duct without you knowing it. Later on, it gets more and start clogging your drainage and air con as well.

eastbay,
you gonna be ready for huge bill to fix all those you mentioned. Even, with recond unit also might get you to 1K expenses. wish you luck.

Rgds,
Ace

Ace,

Actually the aircon man also advice me to do that. Looks like I have no other option.

Yup, i think you are right. when ever I turn your ignition key on to battery level without starting the car, I can hear the moving sound from the air duct opener (a very light "click" sound, same sound when i click the button to open the opener).

Ayak... u got me oredi!!!

I think i saw u last week. But im not so sure. Coz last week i saw 5 coupe's!!! 1 at tesco damansara ( maroon color - automatic trans wit stock s/rims ) 3 black coupe's ( 1 at tropicana traffic light, 1 at nkve, 1 more at my office.summore num plate nak sama!! )1 in blue color. FEMALE driver. Damn fast. From NKVE exit to kota damansara.Or at D1 drift challange that held at stadium shah alam? There also i saw 2 coupe's.1 white and 1 black. So which one describes urs? ehehe...

So glad to knw ur guys...

Bout the a/c prob, yup i agree wit u ( both ace n bs) 2months ago i just refill the gas. But now, gas oredi tak ada. Yup, its bcoz of cooling coil. My mech said if im lucky, the leakage area can be repair. Else, ...RM800 ;P

me facing the same prob also...can teach me on how i can fix it?
also where do u do the checkup on whether the cooling coil...itswas like tat last time until i refilled my gas(1 year ago)...but now its coming back...

eastbay, the maroon couple you saw might be Daniel Lee. Danial, is that you where you attend D1?

eastbay, i had the same issue last time, refill the gas and the gas gone very fast.
Gumball, yours last for a year, I'm not sure which area it touch, but usually if cooling coil leakage, the gas gone very fast (at least won't last for a year  )

I get my fix near temple Park. Kind of Ulu place, intro by Yu.

Gumball, if you are lucky, might be the leakage at the Valve

Blacksamurai, im also heard the moving sound from de air duct opener. I think the smell that cames from outside Maybe bcause of the duct 'gate' not properly close. Is this possibble?

i was told that the opener will always close tide (controlled by spring and electric gadget), it was the sponge that not firm enough to hold the air.

Ic. So its because the sponge lah. Did u replace ur sponge before? How much does it cost u?

You guy can actually see the sponge when the mechanic open up the coil for maintenance/repair service. Just be sure to ask him to change the sponge. If possible, those sponge that use by air con. Mine did by a reputable shop. So, they usually have those hard to find items. Sealing off the air duct really help isolating the bad smell from outside of your car when it is idling. Imagine if you were to park near durian seller and on a hot day. When you get into your car, you would know what I mean.

:)

where u guys think i should fix it then....been wonderin and looking around...most of them just asked me to fill gas lah..u get wut i mean right?

I think you can go to the workshop thats doing a complete job for Black Samurai. He even posted photo of it. You can refer to it. Its a waste of money if you just top up the gas knowing it it leaking.

Sorry for late respond!!! The decription that eastbay gave about the maroon Coupe almost suit my Coupe except that my Coupe is manual and not auto!!!
That is not my coupe!!!

Actually I also encounter the same problem as you guys did!!!
The sponge flying out from the air-cond vents and also the air is freaking hot!!! Moreover, sometimes the air smells like rotten rats smells!!!
I get this problem from the first day I got my car in Oct 2004 and I only manage to remedy it in Dec 2005!!! Suffer for 14 HOT MONTHS!!!

I changed my air-cond compressor and all the problem is gone!!!
No more smell, no more sponge, no more hot air!!!
There are 3 types of compressor!!!

1) Used compressor from chop-shop!!! No warranty and it is priced between RM700-RM800!!!

2) Re-conditioned compressor!!! 1-year warranty(if i'm not mistaken) and it is priced between RM500-RM600

3) Original new compressor from Hyundai Korea!!! NO WARRANTY (manufacturer policy) and it is priced at a whopping RM1500!!!

I go for the (3) compressor!!!
No choice because the first one will break down anytime also!!! No point changing!!!
The second one is the most ideal one! But at that time, the whole Peninsular don't have stock for it, so I have to go for the third one!!!
Till now, it din give me any problem!!!
Lovin it everyday!!!

Aircon cooling coil replacement

As per what i posted earlier, my aircon is totally out before I reach the workshop at Rawang.

Part 1
Diagnostic day

Reach there, before i says anything, the aircon shifu come and greet me, "Your Coupe got aircon problem right? Park your car inside and let me have a check " ... The power of Yu..

Park my car inside the workshop, damn spotted that my number plate have a crack, really bad luck even before the diagnose start
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7058/roy20050529046vw0.jpg

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Sans Serif]Start raining when the diagnose start (*&%$#^&*, really bad luck), see the shifu plug in the device, maybe checking the pressure inside my aircon system (dare not to disturb sifu, man)
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6693/roy20050529048lt2.jpg

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/442/roy20050529047tx8.jpg

The Shifu suspect that cooling coil might have leak, ask me shall he proceed to check for it? Because that day is Sunday, can't order part, so the max he can do it to checking and place the order tomorrow. Which means that I either leave the car there or I might need to take the car riding around the town without aircon system for day (or days). But since I was there, it is raining there and I can't feel the aircon anymore, so ask the shifu to proceed for checking,

As per told by others (maybe Yu or Ace), the glove compartment and entire Central Console need to take out be before taking out the cooling coil, and there is the result of what I have in my back of the car, really 'sakit hati' seeing that.
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7692/roy20050529049rt4.jpg

Shifu ripping off my central console in order to take out the cooling coil.. Ouch...
Need to remove the silencer as well.

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/333/roy20050529061ps5.jpg

after more than 2 hours of hard work, the cooling coil has been taken out, on the right top of the photo, the black plastic is the cooling coil holder.
the one laying on the car mat is my dirty and old cooling coil. All the things in the white plastic container is those small clips and screws

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/4272/roy20050529051ql7.jpg

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Sans Serif]disassembly the cooling coil for testing. I pray hard that my cooling coil is ok.
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7930/roy20050529054qy3.jpg

HCC logo on top of my cooling coil, genuine Hyundai aircon Part :)
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7007/roy20050529053fu5.jpg

The other component laying apart after dissemble.
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/4900/roy20050529060oi9.jpg

the shifu clean my cooling coil with a special chemical (damn, it make it looks like new) and put the cooling coil into the basin full of water, dup.... can see little bubble coming out from my cooling coil. Confirm Cooling Coil KONG!.

So ask the shifu to check out the price of Cooling coil for me. And I head back to KL. Damn a kancil turtle turn at Rawang (might be due to the heavy rain just now), and the other accident happen at the same road, pit at Shell petrol station and refuel. :) I was stuck in the jam without aircon, guys can you imagine how painful is it?
