PENANG: Asrin Mohsin's father wants his son to be taken off the life support system, saying the teenager has no chance of ever getting better.
“It is not something that I want but I have to face the facts that he will never get better. Even if he were able to breathe on his own, he will be a vegetable.
“It will be better if he were to pass away peacefully. I have been told by two neurosurgeons that my son's brain was not functioning anymore and the left side of his body was paralysed,” he added.
Asrin, 18, was attacked on Saturday by 10 youths, said to have been upset over being scolded for teasing two girls.
Mohsin, 61, a retired hospital attendant, said the doctors could not operate on his son as he was already brain dead. “What has my son done to deserve such a beating? He is my youngest and only son and the apple of my eye,” he said at the Penang Hospital last night

PROBE INTO ATTACK: (From left) Asrin and the two who are sought by police – Sharul Nizar and Mohd Kamsani.
State CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said it could have been a case of mistaken identity.
“The youths had thought Asrin was the one who scolded them in the 2.30am incident on Saturday but it was actually some of his friends,” he said.
SAC Syed Ismail said police had questioned Asrin’s friends who said the youths, from Tanjung Tokong, left after being chided but returned an hour later. They started hitting Asrin with their helmets while his friends fled on their motorcycles.
The victim’s friends, who returned later, saw him lying unconscious on the ground. “They sought help from a motorist who rushed the victim to the Penang Hospital where he was admitted with a fractured skull, cheek and neck. A report was later lodged at the hospital’s police post at about 4am.
“We more or less know who the attackers are and it is a matter of time before they are rounded up,” he said.
He said police were now looking for Sharul Nizar Shamsuddin, 21, of 462A, Jalan Tanjong Tokong, and Mohd Kamsani Yahya, 22, of 468, Mukim 1, Teluk Bahang, to help in investigations. SAC Syed Azizan urged witnesses or those with information to contact Chief Insp G. Karunaagaran (04-2292222 ext 1844) or any police station.
