Like what you said lo.. put high voltage white bulb .. of course will consume more electric power la... somemore your alternator didn't upgrade .. better you take out the bulb since you found it already melt some of your headlamp's cover.. if nope your pocket will dry ..

i use relay name wheels it is about RM15 each . Quite expensive

Must upgrade alternator ??

changing bulb no need to change alternator kua.....but for the cover melt...should take note on it.....

depend on the user inside the car use how many electric devices lo.. since he used high voltage white bulb .. already consume so much electric power plus other devices pull some electric power means his alternator not suffieciently to provide enough power .. and ...
if that bulb able to melt cover .. hehe .. they are very thirsty bulbs .... :P

Basically installing additional cable and relay should not "drag" any power from your alternator and make your light dimmer since it directly draw power from your battery + by pass the extra relay and boost the bulb....

My guessed is either you battery not very good or relay might have problem.

1. What battery are you using now ? N40 or N60 ? How many plates is the battery ?
2. Is your relay 30A ? Have you try swap to Bosch relay ?
3. Also what's the wattage of the new white bulb ?

Mine everything is OK ;)

my normal bulbs r very dim......very old car i drive

can relays help my bulbs gain more brightness? or dat i can change 2 a higher wattage bulb coz of the relay??

an accessories shop quoted me 100bucks to do the upgrade........ but im very stingy, any sifu can explain the safe DIY steps to do it pls??

what ever old car you driving now ? Using stock bulb ? Headlight reflector all clear and still OK ?

If everything OK then try add wiring and relay first...if can't then change to 90/100w bulb

100 bucks? I did my relaying for the light bulbs for less than 30 bucks.

take note on this....don't get cheated by the shopper loo....

hi g88,
why have to change to 90/100w bulb?

guys.. not high VOLTAGE bulbs leh... is high WATTAGE... higher is WATT or W

normal bulb is 12V 55/60w... u change de bulb is still 12V but is 100/110w

so it consume more current... so need to change relay n wiring...

ur light cover melt because de bulb is very hot...

n u if u r using those batt with water... u need to check de water level more often.. cos de recharging rate is higher.. so de level may go down faster..

my 2 cents B)

I have those wiring + relay for my car. Those normal yellow bulb I put, 2 days melted, both at the same time. Darn funny. That time I change cause cannot find white bulb. Wattage the same 90/110

Now using back white color one, hehe. Maybe 1 day I come show you all how to DIY it, very easy. Need the cable, and 2 relays. Thats all. Fuse too.

Yup, the bulb melted.

Now I using my regular white bulb, 3 months already.
