Gearbox Oil

How often should anyone service their manual gearbox oil?
Since I got my car is already 1 1/2 years and 35000KM...
I never heard need to change gearbox oil (cos lastime drive my mom nissan sunny 10yrs car never ever change gearbox oil b4, although just covered 70000KM within that period).. also feel that sometimes got 'krakkk' sound when engage 1st or R... not as smooth as when its new... dunno whether its time to change gearbox oil. My clutch is hydraulic one (new 1.5 all also hydraulic model foreman told me).. the oil is enough wor...

the gear box's oil shld b change ev 20000km, & flush ev 40000km...for the best result & long lasting.

goto any shop said u wanna flush ur GB lah........they flush & change ur GB oil at the same time....
i flush mines at Kepong, bout rm60. coz kira in Per Liter. so, mines is 5liter X rm12= rm60.

20000KM? aiya, i just miss mine. :huh: better send for gear oil service. :P

Last time did for my Kancil and WIRA, but didn't feel the different.

my mech put Motul oil into my GB and the result really impressive. no more noise and very smooth, but quite expensive la

i jst recently changed my bout a week ago.
i found that i had better response n power and less jerk to the car after shifts.
but i still find it hard sometimes to engage 1st or 2nd.
driving a 130y.
my mechanic's bro said something bout plates.
no idea bout it.
im going to see my mech tomorrow so ill be asking bout it.
my dumb batt. one of the plates kong so had to call aam change new one.
the batt still under warranty

how big is your engine cc and how much for the Motul GB oil? I'm looking for Motul info. Can share where to get Motul?

i know my werkshop in pandan indah is using MOTUL engine oil..GB oil not veri sure , i think MOTUL too..if im not mistaken wen i change my oil lastime, for SEMI i think cost around RM 100 more/less...den later kenot maintain that price so change it to cheaper oil..around RM 6+ onli..

I thought SLICK gear box oil is good for proton cars. It will solved the engagement problem on 1st and 2nd gear.

Many workshop recommended engine oil on gearbox, they said its better coz its thinner than gearbox oil. All i can say its total bullshit, tried once but ended up changing to SLICK after few days coz felt gb very loose and engagement problem too.

For manual gearbox, Tufoil is highly recommended.

Dosage of about 5%, in most cases about half an 8 oz. bottle will make gears shift easier and run cooler.

[/b][/quote] Dude, i'm confused with this. What do ppl mean by flush? I change the gear oil before .. but I always get confused by ppl saying flush the gear oil, and also flush the brake fluid. Ahhhhh :unsure: , slap myself silly :lol: et5828: Nothing wrong, you can change your gearbox oil every 50 - 60,000 kms. Those people who always shift gears, like drag racing or track racing. Actually, it doesn't really matter. Myself I change every 20,000 kms because I bought a Castrol gear oil (same size as castrol magnetec) that allows me to use twice, i afraid the oil 'rosak' .. so thats why I choose to change every 20,000 kms. :lol: What is there to save right? 20,000 kms is quite sometime, and the gear oil only about RM 50. :rolleyes:

i once totally forgot about gear oil change for about 100k. thankfully, no damage is done. the gears still engage nicely now. phew ....

as for change vs flush: from my understanding - flush means to completely get rid of all traces of the old oil (or water, in the case of radiator). change means to take old oil out and put new oil in but this does not mean all the old oil has poured out. so, the new oil will mix with the little amount of old oil left.

Flush all just simply made up terms my friend. What you want to do is keep a good track on when you change oils and mantain that. This is a form of preventative mantainence. The workshop fellows know how to physc people like us out especially when we change oil---> Since change oil huh better get rid of all other old oil residue lorr= bullshit. My take on this matter anyway. I change my transmission and differential oil once a year.
