guys, lets say the fuel warning light blink, how far more we can travel, lets say it blinks just once? been told about reserve tank but is there really a reserve tank? read somewhere at the internet that if the fuel warning blinks we still got around 30-40litre fuel and normally we can still jalan for another 50-60km, true ah? normally i fill in rm30, can drive untill 160km-170km then sure the warning light blink once, i willstraightly pump, this is for town driving, aircond most of the time with constant 6k rpm rev if found straight road ahead.hehe. im using 16 inch rim with 2.2 piping.

the light blink already still got 30-40litre ??
sure or not ?
for my car when the light blink already still can go for 30-40km like that.....but i not dare to try it loh.....hahah....

when my warning lights blink... i can go for extra 30km plus... hahaha.... iswara fuel indicator inaccurate la...

the objective of fuel warning lamp is to advice on low fuel level.

it will blink on and off initially as a reminder to refill, but when it comes on all time then we must find a petrol station immediately.

one easy way to know what would be the reserve is by refuelling full once the warning lamp starts to show.

lets say fuel tank capacity is 60 litres and refilling is 50 litres then the reserve is about 10 litres. enough to travel as far 80kmh at a speed of about 70kmh for average cars.

all depend on particular car's gauge...sum warning come soon & sum late..

anyway, 1ce the light blink...surely enough to take u to the nearest petrol bunk..

It depends on various cars... my friend's altis can go around 50km or more after the lights come on...

my car (neo), i think 30-40km only... but dare not to go further lah... dun want to push my neo... very malu.. later ppl see, aiyo. neo baru keluar already break down.. hahahha...

if you ever open up your fuel tank (or at least the float/sensor cap) then you'll know how the things work.

for my case, consider the depth of the sensor and the depth, if the warning light doesn't go off when my car is on flat ground and not moving, i would have 3-4 liter left which is enough for me to go 30km~ good enough to reach the next petrol station.

not all car have a reserve tank, some isn't really a reserve tank, its just where the fuel is feeded. "reserve" means the original pipe can't get fuel from them, need to use another one, some got a switch of somesort(sometime auto), but really depends on the model lar.. which i do not know alot about.

i heard fuel injection model is more stable and accurate.true ah? the problem is the fuel indicator sumtimes go down, stay for few km then naik atas again..haih, pening kapara...

All fuel inciators are not accurate la. Even Merc and BMW expected mileage left is not accurate. You could probably squeeze a few more km before it goes dry. I don't trust fuel gauges la. When the needle about to hit bottom i fill up liao. But some never leaves they tanks less than half. And never... never run a EFI based engine with an empty tank. You'll learn the hard way.

Most cars should be able to go 100km with normal driving conditions. Tried it with Kancil (660cc), Wira (1.3 and 1.5), Waja (1.6), Accord (2.0), Sentra (1.6)

you must have read some "ajaran sesat " (misleading) website.

30-40 lit balance with fuel warning on? FYI, Myvi comes with 45 Lit fuel tank, is that means that afte 5 lit burned, the fuel warning light will show? I don't think so.
30-40 Lit for 50-60KM travel, what car with such bad Fuel Comsuption (FC)?
so, forget about what you read.

Don't frequently travel at low fuel level, it will hurt your fuel pump

the affect would be on the car's catalytic converter. it may be damaged, non-repairable and does cost a bomb!!

lets say 4g15 carb & EFI..both wira with same amount of fuel & driving stlye...
which can go further with a single tank of fuel..

I think the efi has the advantage ??

i put my money on the EFI. but very little difference though.. maybe 20-30 km per full tank.

but there are other advantages to having EFI like

1. easy starting
2. self tuning
3. cleaner emissions, more optimum power at all speed range, more economical

Im using Wira 1.3 slightly modified .. Light starts blink, I come from Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, passing down Syed Putra jam .. Federal highway until Shah Alam ... sigh!.. the needle half passed the minimum level .. i was like .. WTF!!! .. the car can stop anytime..

By the way .. i have done 41km :) with light blink ..

I do not believe that any cars can still go for another 30-40km when the low fuel level indicator starts blinking. For cars with inefficient and inaccurate fuel system, you might probably can do this but for cars like Honda, BMW, Merc, it will coz a damn deep hole in your pocket.

Driving your car with very low fuel level will cause your pump to cavitate. These pumps have their pumping design capacity and when the fuel level is extremely low, you can just imagine the damage it will do on your pump and engine system especially when you have EFI system. I used to drive my Putra 4G93T GSR eventhough the low fuel level light already blinking. As a result, my engine died. I had to make few trips to the petrol station to bring the fuel level to the minimum low level as required. I thought the problem ended there but I ended up having spent few bucks on re-tuning the engine.

As far as I am concern, reserve tanks are not installed in any cars in Malaysia. Reserve tank is usually installed in vehicles with high-engine capacity. What I know, Toyota Landcruiser (latest model) 4.5V6 G/GX/GXR, 4.7L V8 VXR and the Lexus LS470, Toyota Prado 4.0L V6, have this reserve tank. There are two tanks, one with 90L and another with 40L. So, even if you run dry with the 90L tank, you still can drive another 30km before the fuel level indicator on the 2nd tank lights on. Indicators for there 2 tanks on the speedometer also are different. Having said that, not all 4WD vehicles are equipped with this reserve tank. Heavy duty full-size 4WD vehicles such as The Landcruiser and the Prado, which have 2 separate gears, are equipped with this reserve tank. other 4WD vehicles, with AWD or full-time 4WD, like the Merc ML, BMW X5, X3, Volvo XC90, Honda MRV 3.5V6, Lexus RX330, do not have this separate reserve tank.

Why reserve tanks are installed? becoz these 4WD heavy-duty full-size vehicles are designed for off-road conditions. when they go deep into the desert, they need sufficiently large amount of fuel in store, in case they lose or sesat in the desert.

are u sure... but i dare not to try, coz normally after the indication at red line (Kenari), within next 40km i will feeding my car already.

folks,.. dun ever try this it will spoil the fuel pump...
