2day drivin on kesas highway nearly 1:20pm n the weather looks like giler babi hot. while i was drivin n listenin music at the fast lane, suddenly..... PROOFFFF!! damn my whole front screen somehow broke like saperate pieces and scratchers..... :( walauweh!! shock me n i also didn't believe what had happened 2 my car wind screen at that time  fortunately it didn't crack on the spot if not.....scare to imagine ler.... then i put switch on the hazard light movin like siput babi n then directly went 2 my mech shop.....sigh......damn unlucky day. somemore needa spend some$$$ to repair :( .....

when i had reached my mech shop, i told my mech bout this incident n he said it was the hot weather at the external n cold in the interior cuz it broke.... but i really blur bout it.... i was doubt about maybe some small rock cuz it but i n my mech didnt found any evidence that cuz by rocks.... sigh....

Same incident as mine few years back. Travelling to Penang then piak..cracked! Ur mech is right..should be cause by the diff temperature. Mine is more obvious that outside is damn hot..wen i wind down my mirror few few secs and close it back..windscreen straightaway crack...If there are any small rocks..u could hav heard the collision rite? :P

Yes, i experienced it b4 1 year ago.

Then during fixing the time, ask from those sifus and some sifus from ZTH.
Actually it got a few years use ages for every windscreen, normally are 3 ~ 4 years the max. ;)

change to laminated glass le...more expensive yes...but at least it wont shatter like the tempered glass!! :)

If the temperature at outer layer too hot...issit possible to spray some water on it to cool it down?? might possible also

a sudden temperature change will cause the glass molecules to move more horrendously. thats why windscreens breaks when a water drips on a hot windscreen.

i experienced that sometime ago too
theres this time i pass by agong's house...
then suddenly *pang*
whole windscreen shattered..scare the shit out of me (i was with my father that time... and we were joking about someone in the palace must hav farted and the wave causes the glass to break :P )

it happens.. heheh in my case i was driving with the windows down on a hot afternoon then suddenly in like a split second the whole surface of the windscreen had cracks which filled up the whole area. but it didnt shatter. i was like 0_0. hahah drove to mech.

it happened to me a month plus ago.....driving nicely on the LDP n suddenly gun shot sound....windscreen shattered but lucky didnt fall off while driving to workshop.....

my windscreen lasted me 13 years before it broke.....sadness...

one more reason is that if u change wind screen before they install senget for u also will cause sudden break cos it hit the body and this problem solve when my cousin change 3 time windscreen in 3 month then the last expert solve it for him. make sure u find an expert in changing cos if not later sure shatterd again

i couldn't agree with u anymore. the sound was just looks like gun shoot sound..... totally shock me up

well this lesson remind me next time park my car at car park durin noon for avoidin hot temp :)

I notice the wind screens crack in a similar pattern, in lines and sort-of squares. Anybody knows why?

satria95....i guess thats the old technology of making glass not to shatter in sharp sharp points avoiding more serious injury to the driver during accidents like collision or temp shatter....

same thing goes to beer mugs or glass....avoiding glass to break in sharp points during fights or sumthin coz the injury is much more severe as in stabbed in the flesh or tearing them off....

i guess its all the same purpose of making glass safer during accidents...

anion,
Oh.. okei. Thanks for the info hehehe the patterns on the broken windscreen is somewhat.... abstract hehehe

i dunno how to explain it and i by no means know how it was done, but those cracks are due to the manufacturing process. just like anion said, they wanted it to shatter in as harmless pieces as possible... and about the difference in shatter density, im just guessing its the way the glass is 'bent'. almost all automotive front windscreens are curve, no? there's also something about the middle part being more 'idontknowwhattocallit' to enable light to enter better or avoid distortion or something. thats why it breaks that way.

i could be wrong  this is all i know
