To clear your a bit doubt with "5th/6th gear" and "final drive", this 2 thing are in separated location in a vehicle if your car is FR or using a transmission. They are connected by propeller shaft, not direct contact. (FF using transaxle). And yes, they are 2 different set of gearings.kyfei, ya. Everyone is confused. And there's Nothing as "gear 1 to 5 or 6 just using one final drive." haha. Every car has 1 final drive doesn't matter your gearbox got how many speed. wfhan, yes, you are right. Let's say " A x C = T " or " B x C = T "A and B refer to 1st gear and 2nd gear ratio if your gearbox only has 2 speed. C refers to your final drive ratio and it is always there at that position.T is your torque.So, if you change the A ratio only, it won't affect the result or 2nd gear.but if you change the C ratio, it will affect both the result isn't it?Means whatever gear you are in, your output will still need to travel the final drive first before going to your wheels.I think better do a self study la if that's confusing. hehe. and i got no time to upload the pics for the explanation.
