My car passenger side winscreen was smached and my notebook was taken away by those mutha%^$&(*.
I parked at Atria Damansara Jaya. my notebook was inbettwen the back seat and front seat. And i covered with some paper so that it wont be visible....
At 20 minutes, my Radiostar's alarms shock sensor was triggred. and after another 10 seconds another one more time triggered.
I rushed to my car and it was too late. It took me 4 minutes to reach to my car since i was a bit far from my car...

I know I should have not left my notebook in the car but i thought since i'm just going for a while nothing will happen...

F^$% those motherf*(&^.
Anyway thanks to Radiostar Alarm, without it i wouldnt know something had happened to my car and i would have taken my sweet time to shop.

I heard that laptop/notebook thieves have a device that can detect notebooks.
Was your notebook completely shut down or was it in hibernation or standby mode?

For the last 100 times. There no such thing as laptop detection device. And thieves aren't high tech either.

If people are careless, that's it. Clean and simple.

Never leave anything in the car. Even for 1 minute. Thieves may have followed your car and marked it.

To me, I don't believe there's a laptop detection device coz no one has come forward to provide me with a technical explaination on how it works and convinced me. But what I do know is that people to mark your car and follow you to your destination and observe what you do, etc.etc. Therefore this gives enough reason not to leave your laptop in the car. UNLESS you put it in the boot and drive back all the way from Johor or Penang or something then it's ok la. If the thief is desperate enough to tail me half the length of peninsula malaysia for my laptop then I give in la... just take it la.... my laptop cost only RM3,9xx anyway.

InitialD....My notebook was completly shut down

PutraX_Choong.... I parked outside Atria

EcstacyElmo... yup the distance was like 300 meters i guess and I was inside Atria on the top floor...

Guys.. im not sure how true this is but the police fella told me that those fellas got a device to find out if u have notebook inside ur car but that device will only detect ur notebook battery. It seems that the police cought the whole syndicate on March and they found this device with them.

But my case i would say its purely my carelessness lah...should have taken the notebook with me...

What kind of frequency do you detect the notebook at? Quite interesting.. It goes give off radio waves when its on. Off? I don't think there is such a thing if not it'd be a very hot item and everyone will know about it. Most likely they know you always carry a notebook and today you left it in your car.

I've left my notebook in clear view in Mid Valley parking before I heard of all these cases but because my bag is not a laptop bag.. I dont' think they bother.. So being a hot place.. I don't think there is such a device.. Do prove me wrong and not by word of mouth.

Anyway, another reminder.. NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER leave your notebook in the car. Not even for 5 mins.. not even for 1 min.

I've seen them dissapear even when the owner is looking at the car turn his head away for a few seconds... gone. And we're talking about a one lane road next to a mamak.

donchichi: I don't think you could steal my laptop la it's so freaking heavy you couldn't carry it and run with 1 hand hahahahaha.

anyway guys why don't you laminate your glass with a security film so that people can't break in and steal?

Try LLUMAR www.llumar.com the guy doing it is part of the TAGG group in Malaysia. I just saw a demo of this film in midvalley today. Quite worth it. It's RM2000 for 1 whole car plus free tinting also, So instead of paying close to RM1000 for eco tint or vkool just get this LLUMAR thing and it kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

the laptop device do actually exist. just be careful

No such thing. If not, proof it. How are you going to detect a laptop when it is switched off? There are many electronic stuff running in a car when it is locked such as HU and alarm system.

Laptop detecting devices are strictly rumours spread from one owner to another because they are careless and dare not tell it to their friends.

CMOS detector
if i've not mistaken, is what they're called. *shrugs* i read sumwhere before.

if the notebook its on or standby should be can detect lah if turn off how to detect/scan ???

CMOS detector? Wei... car also got EEPROM chips la! The ECU is also a mini computer. How to detect? If it actually exist, every fuel injection cars will show up with laptops inside.

Which idiot will switch on a laptop and leave it running in the car? If standby, the power is off as well. Don't believe it? You take a multimeter and test the USB and PS/2 ports. No voltage activity during standby or hibernation.

There are detectors for WiFi, Bluetooth and Wireless Spycam. You can buy these from any electronic stores. But, it does not detect laptops. There is not way to know if the detectors can detect a real laptop or other on-board computer system inside the car.
