I'm a newbie here and wish to gather as much knowledge as well as frens here. I used to own a 2003 Subaru WRX STi and am planning to purchase a 2005 EVO IX. The thing is that i need to get the car soon, as i don't have a ride at the moment. I've spotted a few over the last few days and only 1 looks good enough for me to put my booking money down. Interior, body, undercarriage and engine seems to be in very good condition comparatively to others i've seen. Test driven and it seems fine.THe thing is, i'm new to evos and was wondering if there is anything specific i need to look out for on an evo ix before i make the downpayment. i.e. any particular areas on the evo ix that i need to check for any possible future problems. i.e. leaks in any areas, funny noises, tranny irregularities, idling, etc. Anything that i need to look out for during my final visit and test drive. More alarmingly, i've been told that the stock turbo on the evo ix has the tendency of breaking down. Is this true and which model of evo ix or year of manufacture? I think mine is a JDM GSR 6-speeder version and has a 260km/h limit on the speedo. Is there such a thing as JDM, USDM and EDM models for EVOs like scoobies? If so what are the differences?Also, want to know, if the stock turbo is going to be a problem - what should i do to overcome this. I know changing to aftermarket turbo is an option - but what else can i do to save the current stock turbo? if changing the turbo is the only option, which model should i go for and how much would it cost new/used? Heard of many evos running with a 3076 turbo. What is the market price for this? Apart from that what else do i need to do on an ix for immediate reliability and power without going into second stage mods like engine internals and bigger turbo. I mean like for a scoobie - oil changes all round, walbro fuel pump, fuel regulator, exhaust, intake and an ECU retune gets me 320whp/420Nm on stock turbo/engine. Is this the same for the evo ix and what kind of whp/torque can i expect to get with these stage 1 mods ? also heard that need to change cams for all previous evos to overcome lag - does this also apply for the ix?Thanks and hope for some immediate response as i noticed this thread hasn't been active for awhile and i need to make the final decision by tomorrow.thanks fellas and sorry for so many questions in so short time.
