KUANTAN: The wedding of "Datuk R" of Malacca to Puteri Shahanaz Hazlin Hamdan is likely to trump the "Datuk K"-Siti Nurhaliza nuptials for extravagance.
Including the hantaran (wedding gifts), Datuk Roslan Hashim, 49, spent more than RM3.5 million on the akad nikah (solemnisation of the marriage) last night and tonight’s grand dinner reception. The 22 gifts he presented to his 24-year-old bride include cash worth RM444,444.44, a BMW car worth RM250,000, a RM150,000 jewellery set, a 20-carat diamond ring costing RM20,000 and other designer items. Her dowry (mas kahwin) was RM22,222.22.
Roslan denied he was competing with Datuk Khalid Muhammad Jiwa, saying: "I don’t think it’s wrong to hold a grand event and present an expensive hantaran if one can afford it." (really ah ??):_:
Khalid’s hantaran for Siti came to RM30,000, while her dowry was RM22,222.
Shahanaz said she only found out about the hantaran two weeks ago.
"I was shocked and thought that Datuk (Roslan) was joking," said Shahanaz. "I asked him why he was being so generous, and Datuk only said he was doing it with a sincere heart."
The former part-time model, a relative of the late Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tengku Afzan, said she agreed to marry Roslan not because of his wealth, but his sincerity.
She agreed they haven’t known each other for very long, but, she said: "We will nurture our love after tying the knot." Shahanaz, who hopes to honeymoon in Paris, presented her groom 20 trays of gifts, including a Rolex watch worth RM84,000 and a RM18,000 ring.
Roslan said he had known her for about six months when he decided to pop the question.
"I’ve befriended many women:angel_smile: , including famous artistes, but none of them won my heart," said Roslan who divorced his wife in 1997. He has five children aged 13 to 24.
The executive chairman of Ghaz Properties Sdn Bhd, a Malacca-based property development and construction firm, said he is prepared for criticism over the age difference between him and his wife.
"I can’t deny it if people say young women are looking for older men. But what they are actually looking for is a husband who is financially stable and secure," he said, adding that he never had, and would not, neglect his ex-wife and children.
So many money give me some loh...can ah ?? Hehehehe...
