Hi there, I'm experiencing a problem with my car.

Last time, my car jerked quite hardcore and it never happened after a month till it happened again (especially when you floor the throttle, no matter at what rev). 3 days ago, the mechanic claimed it was my fuel filter, so i got it replaced. Everything felt so much better after that.

Early last night, i was on the federal highway, crawling in a long jam. I felt my car having the similar jerk, but this time not as bad, it's a smooth jerk as it climbs up the revs(haven't tried flooring, but seems like pressing the throttle lightly lessens the jerks)...

I do have a fuel pressure regulator installed. I tried monitoring the pressure gauge, and i realized that when the needle of the gauge vibrates, my engine bay seems very hot, hotter than usual. That's after a jerk-y ride.

After having the car off for sometime to let it cool down, switching it back on, the needle is steady. Then it wouldn't be as jerk-y after that... till it gets hot again i guess or sometime?

I was just wondering if any fellow forummer had the same problem or could tell the problem to the symptoms i've encountered. Please help and advice. Thanks.

hello fugz...its ur calculus classmate here...hehe
maybe is ur clutch...go check it out :)

i wouldn't suspect it'd be the clutch. Clutch bite is still great shifting at high revs.

Nah, no hi-cams.. ehehe... idling isn't the case here, it's the driving.

Fugz, I used to have jerking problems too.. went to 3 mechanics... all diagnose differently. Finally DMT solved my problem. The culprit was.... WATER!!!!

Somehow, water was in my petrol tank. How did it get in there? Beats me.. but I heard that some petrol stations ( old ones ) sometimes have cracks in their petrol tank underground. So when it rains or there is a flood at that petrol station ( like Jln Dang Wangi ), the water in the ground may seep into the underground tank.

Another theory is condensation in the underground tank.

If u still have this problem, maybe let me have a drive to see if the jerking feeling is the same type of jerking feeling I had.

jerking cause by wateR? i got jerk also..my car auto.. den evertime i slowdown for speeedbumps.. my car jerk like manual forget wana tuka gear... y ah? n den when at traffic light.. i nvr engage to N also jerk.. this jerk doesnt happen b4 1.. oni recently.. y ah?

InitialD, may i know what petrol station did you go to back then? The one you referred located in Dang Wangi.

Just to make it clear to u all on how it feels like if u have water in your fuel system.

Ok.. it's like this....

As you drive off normally... as soon as it reaches a low range rpm, you hear the engine spluttering..like as if the fuel injectors isn't spraying the fuel smoothly.. like it's clogged.

But then as u continue to depress the accelerator to climb up the rpm range, the spluttering/jerking stops.... until u reached the high rpm range ( around 5000rpm ) u get the jerking again.... then u change to a higher gear.. and everything seems normal.
But then the problem comes back on and off.

The key here is to listen to the engine when the jerking comes on.. does it make spluttering sound?

The spluttering is causes when the water get's injected into the combustion chamber and as u know.. water cannot cause explosion.. so that's what at that point in time, there is a temporary loss of power in the combustion process... hence the jerking feeling.

I better not mention it.. scared kena sue for false accusation. Anyway.. just take a drive along Dang Wangi and u will know.. in fact I remember a few year ago, there was a photo of KL flash flood and it showed that petrol station being submerged in flood. I told myself... "pity to those who goes there the next day for petrol"

As a rule of thumb, never go to a low lying petrol station or those who are situated in flood prone areas.

Fugz, I also forgot to tell u that another possibility of jerking could also be the electrical system like the spark plugs, spark plug coils and distributor.

hehe, pm me the name of the petrol station then. :)

InitialD has some pretty good theories on the cause of your car's jerking..

check them out.. see if any of them are the culprit.

but on the other hand, have you serviced your injectors before? i had a similar problem with my previous car.. not only was the car jerking on higher revs, it also felt like there was power loss...

after servicing my injectors at RS, the engine ran a LOT smoother, handled high revs easily and the jerking was gone. hope this helps..

cheers,

rakuen

Fugz stop dancing inside your car la. :D

Don't rule out the possibility you're loosing out one 1 cylinder. I ran my kancil through a flood last time, my distributor cap got wet and as a result I lost 1 cylinder. So I only have 2 cylinder firing out of a 3 cylinder engine. It was very bad, couldn't move, engine always like wanna mati, when I press throttle the engine starts choking. Luckilly I managed to keep the engine running until the disti cap dried up otherwise mati cannot restart I think

rakuen,

thanks for sharing some experience. So i guess something is not right somwhere in the fuel delivery... Guess there's alot of troubleshooting to be done... By the way, i don't think those 10 year old injectors have been serviced before...

cyclonite,

i think my problem doesn't happen until that extent. But i just hope the problem doesn't lead to so.

Anyways, i was wondering... when the mech showed me the very dark brownish fuel in the fuel filter... i wonder if that could've affect my injectors...

thanks for the reply guys, appreciate it...

p/s: cyclonite, dancing in my car ar? dangerous ler, i won't do such also, ahahah, DRIVE SAFELY! :P

fugz.. during ur idle .. ur pressure guage there will suddenly vibrate wan izzit ?? mine also like that ler.. i dunno what is wrong with it ... it seems like smooth, then suddenly vibrate.. and it stable down a while and it vibrate suddenly again .. and it keep repeat

not suddenly vibrate. after a jerk-y ride, and have my car stationary... it will be vibrating constantly. and the engine bay is very very hot! way hotter than usual.

when the car's cool, the needle is very still.

constantly ah .. mine it only vibrate like 1 second then i stops... stable .. then the same thing repeat

you can check your spark plug, i think i had da same prob like yours, once accelerate you can feel da jerk d, after check by da mechanic , it was da spark plug

errrr... my acceleration everything is okie wan ... just that when i see like that .. i dont feel nice lerr.. gives me a feeling that something is wrong like that ... im using plug heat6 now wan ..
