Can work ah? : Grounding strap

Hi guys,

Just wanna ask u guys comment abt car that has this rubber (looks like it) strap that tied at the back of the car touching the road, similar to big-big lorry used to have at the back of the lorry.

What is the use of the strap that touching the ground when the vehicle is moving?? iszit for discharging eletrostatic from the big bodies vehicle moving in the air?? how come sedan oso copy and use the strap?

Got advantage ar?? or just x-tion-xtion only??? :confused_smile: :confused_smile:

They are mostly used on Large lorries and trucks...especially trucks that carry FLAMMABLE items..The static generated can be dangerous and can ignite Flammable substances..
On cars..i think the only advantage will be that a person wont get a shock..which is rare..

Err rally cars don't have that stupid piece of cloth.

It's called a huge con device. It won't do anything to your car, zero improvements - the most it can do is draw frowns and laughs from people who actually know what the original items on huge PETROL tankers do.

The original items are metal chains or conductive material designed to discharge static to the ground, because the fuel sludging inside the huge petrol tank has a slight chance of igniting the fuel inside. This grounds the tanker, and makes it safe from spontaneous combustion.

It does nothing on normal cars, and those who got it are either extremely gullible or plain ignorant about the properties of electrostatic.

How much did it cost? RM10? I DIY for you lar :P FOC.

actually i almost wanted one of that ... coz i heard it can prevent some static shit that i always kena when i come outta the car and touch my car door frame ... damn annoying seriously everytime i will get a shock when try to close the door ...

1)First it DO NOT ground your car,how the hell you ground it if it is made of rubber??Rubber is not a conductor

2)Wat is the big fuss of static? is not like you are driving race car,where you go into pitstop to refuel with the risk of ignite petrol fume.Scare of ur car explode because of static while u are pumping at the petrol station?
When u got out of the car,just give a "high 5" to any metal part of your car,door,roof,bonnet or watever conductive material.

I always got "sot" too everytime i wanna open up my locker,due to the bloordy carpet.Whole body full of static charge,we even sometime "sot" each other too.Wat i did was,just put my whole palm on the locker for a few second and wahla no more zapp

I see that most of these straps are attached to the rear driver side of the car. Wonder why? I wonder if the drivers that installed the strap were actually LORRY TANKER rather than Rally car driver

Anyway, ppl are so conscious with their car and their performance nowdays. Every Horse power must be squeezed out mar.....adding a little here abnd there and gain 0.001 horse power. and hopefully adding a strap can give them another 0.001 increament of horsepower

I still can recall from my experience last time that when I trailling a moving lorry tanker at night in a highway, I did see spark at the contact point of the strap and the ground.

It's a stupid thing to put on a normal car and it looks spastic.

Just another dumb fad, which some dumb "I'm like so original" dude started and then other dumb "oh shit, that somehow looks good, I want one!" dudes started to imitate.

It dosent HAVE to be the door frame only, any part of the car that conducts will do; ie; the door when your closing it.

Again, it also depends on what your wearing, and what you did before you touch the nozzle of the petrol pump. Dont wear sweathers, dont rub across your car seat (if its made from fabric). The easiest way is just to shut the door, when your do that you effectively touch the door (not the door handles) and therefore grounded yourself.

The rubber thing that hagging at the back looks stupid and nonsense to me. I saw once when the car travel at high speed the rubber thing didnt even touch the ground. So how do it has grounding effect ?

A lot of those rally wannabe with damn tall ground clearance like to put these kind of stupid stuff to the car. It looks like a mati pucuk dick hanging at the back of the car.

I hate it a lot. Sorry if I offended anyone but its my opinion and i think its a waste of money. These ppl just buy stuff without thinking twice and do some research on it 1st. See ppl put, also follow other ppl put.

Better go buy those Pivot Raizin or earth cable much better. Grounding strap...my ass....

u have a good point there. Maybe the the car only dischage the car when the car slows down a bit....

Again, I guess it can be consluded that the strap thingy hanging at the back of the car is purely useless, if not utterly show-off.

It's like you have some state of the art home entertainment unit at home, but the home do not have power supply. hahahahaha!
