Hi all sifu and gurus.

Let make it as i'm a dummies at all to ICE. And now i'm dealing with DIY.

I now have got a sony HU with 1 preout, 1 ADX 4ch amp with 125w x 2 (1ch n 2ch with highpass filter, 3ch n 4ch without high pass filter) 1 Kicker x100i competition amp 50w x 2 @ 4ohm stereo. 800w bridged mono. 1 kicker X3i electronic xover, 1 12" soundstream DVC xtreme subbie. And all the amp wiring kit with RCAs.

How do i deal about it? I mean how do i actually run the system?

and i need to know somethin about tuning as well. I turn everythin as in flat as 1st and then start with volume in HU, and do i work out ir the electronic xover 1st or set the gain in amp b4 the electronic xover 1st?

btw, in the amp, how do i set the frequency?

thanks for educating me. Appreciate you guys attention very much

PLS HELP!

oh ya and oso a soundstream 6.5" xtreme series component set.......

oh sifu.... not touching active at all....... component set 1 set oni. Running it with the passive xover that comes along with the component set.

Basic setup........ thanks

Btw, i intend to use the ADX 1ch n 2ch to run the component set oni, the 3ch n 4ch ch leave it......... was thinking from HU to xover 1 pair 5m RCA, and the xover to ADX and kicker amp each 1 pair 1m RCA.........

is that a gud play coz the HU oni had 1 preout

above is the photo of my kicker xover....... pls help to acknowledge me onto how to play with it.

thanks

Can & no problem at all, there have 2 switch on your XO to set properly
a) Freq Multiplier switch - set it X1 (front only) coz using passive XO maa.. if full active set it X20 to drive tweeter only..
b) Parallel switch - set it ON position (to activate the sub out)

Front setting Freq.. based on your comp spec... freq response.. let say 60hz-20khz.. set it as lower as the comp can accept... not below then 60hz... high pass filter only allow freq above the freq cut off point you set.. as above 60hz.. only 60hz & above your comp set will received...

Sub setting Freq... low pass.. setting above 100hz give you type of boom boom...if set below then 70hz give you tightens up your bass & improve front soundstaging.. low pass filter only allow freq below the freq cut off point you set.. let say 70hz... only freq
Low pass & High pass filter totally diff work & function.... low pass below cut off point & high pass above cut off point..

Your XO seem like don't have Phass adjustment... the important thing... without this you can not phass your bass (sub) to front.. hopefully your X100i have it...

Your 2 amp built-in crossover set to flat or full range (if have)..

thanks for the xplanation.......btw, the lower freq i feed to sub the better soundstage of bass?? if i can lower em to 50hz will that be good?

so to the amp freq adjustment better to put them in full pass or band pass? no need to load them high pass or low pass?

ok....the kicker amp has got nothin but only 1 gain switch............

how ler? any help with the phass ?

sifu, 1st thing is to set everythin from HU, electronic xover and amp to 0?? flat??
then start with HU, and then????? amps gain 1st or xover???

at the xover i oni deal with front high pass and sub low pass? ignore the rear high pass?

wat about the BOOST at sub?

btw sifu, how do i wired my sub?
its a DVC but 300w........ thanks

Frend, look like you not understand your XO working....ermmmmmm... OK laa start again..

Your Kicker is 2/4ch = 2/3way ( but not fully 3way & not good enough also)...
= 2/4ch mean INPUT, 2ch (left/right) or 4ch front/rear (left/right)
= 2/3way mean OUTPUT, 2way is High pass 35hz-400hz (same output for Front & Rear) & Low Pass 45hz-250hz(sub) ppl call it SEMI ACTIVE.. 3way is 2 High Pass & 1 Low Pass, Front 700hz-8Khz (solely for tweeter & with multiplier freq set to X20), Rear 35hz-400hz & Sub 45hz-250hz ppl call it Full Active...

Right now your system is Semi Active which Mid & tweeter need go through passive crossover after amp (ADX)... That why your rear out & 3rd/4th ch (amp) not use at all... My suggestion based on your XO & Amp... I think you should bridge it to run your SS component set... to gain more power rather than your waste power...

Yes you can set as lower 50hz for you sub... bass boost depend your car acoutics... you can set either 6db or 12db or 18db ... depending on your preference...

I did know exactly your amp power output 800w peak power or RMS & impedance 4ohm or 1ohm..... DVC 4ohm + 4ohm or 2ohm + 2ohm... 300wrms kaa..... If your amp is 800wrms X 1 4ohm & sub DVC 300wrms 4ohm + 4ohm...
You need to connect it in series to maintain it at 8ohm.... but not enough power

thanks man i guess i know what is with the xover liao.

but i got a real hurt news........... i bet i over gain the sub amp IT FRIED!!......

Frend, which got fried... X100i... if I not mistaken.. over set gain will destroy your sub but not amp... Connect it in series you will get 8ohm... this should not cause it... connect it in parallel you get it satble at 2ohm should the cause... or your DVC 2 + 2 ohm & your amp not stable bridge below 4ohm... this should be the cause your amp got fried... DVC 2 + 2ohm connect it in parallel will get 1ohm...

sorry sifu, is the sub got fried not the amp......
actually 1st step is to set the xover or the amp gain?

the kicker x100i can go down to 0.5ohm stereo at 400w and 1ohm stable bridge mono 800w.

sorry to trouble you so much sifu, coz my previous setup was 100% tune by the installer. now i gatal to learn DIY. hope i dont give you too much of a trouble and really appreciate for your kind help very much.

sifu oldskolboy> can you teach me step by step to do tuning? i mean as in 1st what to tune, 2nd and 3rd...... mayb like HU 1st then xover then amp gain.........

sorry to trouble you. and thanks very much...... mayb sometime later i belanja 100 plus. heheheheeh

Ermmmm.. like tat aa....

1st step.. we should do analysis about every word, capability & funtioning....

GAIN = should set at the center... let say you have this type variable -12db (L) to 12db (R)... center is 0db.. either amp or XO should set at this level..

For mid & tweeter ( XO high pass freq), set as high as you can to save it from fried/burnt... is you set it at lower then freq response that driver can handle... your will damage the driver.

For Sub (XO low pass), set it as low as you can... protect from damage..

If everything in order... slip Cd & play it at 0 volume... if you hear sound coming from your speaker... then you need to check the wiring... you should not hear anything..

2nd slowly increase the volume, adjust the freq (as lower the driver can play) & gain at xo/amp...until you hear distortion or cliping... then you to decrease the gain... repeat it until the full volume & you get the ideal sound...

Sale your XO to other ppl laa... & contact the person Alvinc , he has memphis 3way crossover for sale... some more has warranty until september 2006... price can nego 1... afew function your XO don't have like phase adjustment (tweeter & Sub), mono/stereo (Sub), band pass ( for mid-bass/range)... U need it to get good soundstage... last to month I also bought the memphis for my brother-in law car... I install for him...

the -12db +12db knob is the sub eq boost lah, not gain. gain will be in volts (4v - 0.5v) so depending on what your Hu output is then only can set your gain, leve it minimum if u dont know, only later when youre playing music u can set it when Hu is at max volume, u turn the gain up till u hear distorting sounds at your speakers then u turn back the know a bit. this will be your max gain setting, dont turn up anymore or speaker will burn.

your crossover setting should be around the 70hz mark (since the mids cant go that low) for both sub LP and mids HP. LP and HP on the amp side should be switched off since youre using an elec. xover.

also u can bridge your 4ch amp to 2ch for u to run your components since u dont want to go active.

your sub has to be wired in parallel, u can google the wiring from RF or JL websites.

sifu, when u mention "GAIN" at amp/xover........which 1 is suppose to be it? i know there is a gain switch at amp. what about the xover???? is the OUTPUT KNOB stated min n max is the "GAIN" for xover?

1. gain at amp shud set 1st or gain at xover shud be set?
2. you did mention about set the switch to fullpass at amp. does it mean i set the switch to fullpass and leave the gain at amp to min???
3. and then set the gain "OUTPUT" at xover?

4. and the highpass at the x3i i load it to 400hz and the low pass for sub i
set to 45hz so that they get protected from fried or damage?
5. at highpass i slowly turn the knob down back to 300hz, 200hz until i found
the best performance???
6. and to avoid burn driver i shud not set lower than 100hz??

7. as for sub i leave it at 45hz. and start playing with the output knob?
shud i turn the subsonic on or off?
8. and what does a subsonic help in sound?
9. what about the boost level knob?

thanks sifu.
