Hey, i was thinking if I were to purchase a halfcut, what and where I should check? Those who blew their engines many times or frequently visit the halfcut shop, can share some guides here.

Thanks.

normaly they wil start engine n let u hear the engine sound....by hearing the sound...mechanic can know the condition of the engine....

but halfcut got waranty rite? coz last time i bought one, got som eminor problem..can go bc n change another one.....

Huakenny,

yeah, they gareentee start up. However, they garentee the engine for a few days only. I think buying halfcut is like buying durian, depend on luck. and some expertise...

I mean, have you guys ever imagine why the engine been sold as halfcut? must be some sort of problem (accidents, car probelm etc, due to aging etc) before the engine is used as halfcut rite? Just my .02 cent worths...

not some of the 1/2 cut from Japan after 5 years their cars must be destroyed?

yes buying halfcut engine like buying durian..depend on luck, but b4 u decide to buy/pay, u need to check the cond of engine 1st,such as;
-mileage
-engine cond..oil leak..water leak.. rust n ect
-component of haltcut
-start the engine n hear the sound produced (cracking/noisy etc)
-check smoke colour.. got white smoke or not.. (got water abit produced means good engine)
etc

why u imagine like that? do u knw, halfcut engine n part from where? from japan la lol, after 5 year etc.. japan will scrap the car. then we import to malaysia. its not bcoz car accident/ car prob.good cond also got. there4, we need to varify n do checking, dont just simply interested of the price offered! huhu
take ur time. if u unsure n 0 knowledge/xperince,plz come wif ur mechanic/xpertise person. newbie on haftcut buying may u bought no good engine or buying wif high price. do servey 1st b4 buying of big item.

just my cent. good luck

fellas..
wat about the diff of buying engine kosong and halfcuts?.....if dump in a engine kosong need a ecu+wiring harness right?...but wta about the radiator and airconf?....can used wira stock or need to change to a theri own respective radiator?.......

can used wira radiator instead of other radiaotor to fit these engine kosong?....
wats t he dif and advantages & disadvantges?...

wat about other parts/itesm do we need to used wira stok or rilly need to change to their own itesm or parts of the halfcuts?

Normally if we drive a Proton, when the engine blow/spoilt we will change to a halfcut or recond enigne that have a bigger horsepower than our original engine even the CC is still the same. For a halfcut MIVEC 1.6 engine that include air cond and front dashboard only cost 5-6k. But still like few replies on top said, when buy a halfcut engine is depend on your luck, even the halfcut shop sller also says the same.
I think buying a halfcut engine is way cheaper than new engine.

japan car kena kill off and export to malaysia after 5 years on the road only apply on new cars, supposely cars around year 2000/2001 for this year. but we all go find halfcut of the 80's/90's japanese car that is so popular, 4ag lar.. mivec lar.. b16/b18 vtec lar.. all those are older one already, and you never know what they did to it. some even come with performance part, which means they are being modded to run fast too.

just my 2 cent.

yeah...like performaance cam, forged pistons etc.....not even the halfcut dealers know those parts unless they open the engine up or someone from Japan told them abt it....

imo those old cars got imported out of the country and sell it to other country for example: msia
thats why so many cheap japanese recond cars ^_^

So Malaysia is considered as scrap-yard country? hehe. Anyway if get a good one, should be no problem, if not lucky, better to use back the old engine...
