Anti-lag

Anti-lag, (Sometimes called a Misfiring System in Japan, and a Bang-bang in Europe, due to the popping sounds made when the system is active), is a system used on WRC rally cars to completely eliminate turbo lag. It is a feature of the engine management system. WRC cars are fitted with a class mandated restrictor on the turbocharger inlet and this increases turbo lag significantly. Because of the pressure drop across the restriction, the pressure ratio for a given boost level is much higher and the turbocharger must spin a lot faster to produce the same boost as before.

Anti-lag effectively increases the mass of exhaust fed to the turbocharger. This is typically done by retarding spark timing to a point where most of the combustion happens in the exhaust manifold, typically around 40° ATDC. At the same time more air must be added, this can either be done by the use of a throttle bypass valve or a throttle stop solenoid. When anti-lag is switched on it is typically active when the throttle is closed, and when the throttle is opened the spark timing is resumed to normal.

Exhaust temperatures produced by this system are phenomenal but they can be controlled by varying the amount of fuel injected while anti lag is active; a richer mixture lowers the temperature. Anti-lag is typically only used on race cars because it can shorten the turbocharger service life down to impractical periods for street use. The turbine blade life is drastically reduced, and the entire exhaust system is put into shock, which can lead to explosion or fire. Rally cars generally change turbochargers every chance they get to do so.

this item very expensive to install in turbo car.. this anti lag excually using for racing car expecialy rally car.. if istall at normal turbo car .. wahhh.. nice ... the sound like poppop pop... ...want changing gear..

Yes agreed, i read this article in WRC site. Thats y i wanna share down ere' .. not to say expensive, some cars in Malaysia still afford to fit :)

this antilag fuction for reduse lag in turbo sistem .. more power to lunch up the power. I have pic subaru car tested using antilag sistem .. but forget ware i put..try fine in yube tube... i think...Last time felda rally flying karamjit using satria 1.8 turbo using antilag sistem.. more faster n more respon..

If you can do this... yes this system is suite to you.. heh heh

dun forget it also shortens the lifespan of ur turbo manifold... if u're using a custom banana... hahaha... surely leak very often wan! =Þ

strictly for motorsports use only. it reduces the lifespan anything around the exhaust side of the car (exhaust valves, manifold..etc)

but cool la ..vroom pom pom pom

guys, is it possible to make a switch on/off for anti lag? let say ur using haltech. when ur doing groceries u switch it off. when someone cucuk u switch it on. how convinient. hehe. some one says that u can only activate anti-lag either for launching or shift gears for haltech, cannot be both. is it true?

yes, u can... i think most the extra function in stand alone ecu can make a switch to on or off. i got a switch in my car for anti-lag and launch control also...hehehe....

so nice....where u did it? wat management ur using? can u activate them both at the same time? hehehe i oso wan....

Jibong,

i using Haltech. yes, can ative both in same time. btw, launch control only for u to launch ur car.
for 2wd car, this both system can be say abit usless coz it only will coz ur car wheel spin unless u got very good traction. but anti-lag still can use for show off the fire and ping pong sound. u can deactive the real anti-lag function and just play the fire and it still use the same switch to on and off it.

cyilaw,

thx for the info. someone told me kenot activate both. conman maybe. hehe...nway how much it cost you to make all those switches? any recommended workshop?

Jibong,

the launch contorl u have to switch off once u already launch ur car.

is not only th switches, those switches very cheap only and function to on and off the function for the ecu. the main thing is u need the ecu that have those function. i did mine at GT Auto coz they are the malaysia haltech dealer and now the basic model coz u around RM5.7K if i not mistaken. some other beand like motec, microtech also got such function with different range of price, u can try search around.

ooo...forgot to ask them to put switches when they tune....they oso never told me about that...thanx for the info...i'm more into anti lag rather than launch control...but to have both would be very very nice...hehe...so ur car got fire come out of the exhaust or not when u activate it?

u also using haltech?..doing in same shop?....the fire and sound is ur engine hotter the sound is louder....got fire, but very short only and not all the time got.....i ask my friend to see from behind..hahaha...
