I've been quoted RM3000 for an RB20 transplant + workmanship on my 1961 volvo 122s. Just wondering, is the engine suitable for the car? Any precautions needed? Coz the car is even older than me, previously it was way underpowered (1.5 nissan for a car that weighs almost 2x my proton).

I've seen RB20 on volvo's before.. 124 i think.. seems pretty ok kwa...but 3k is kinda cheap.. ;)

WAH! 122 very old chasis. If just drop in the RB, maybe the car will be susah to control under hard acceleration.

Have to do up the chasis rigidity and suspensions.

122 i told can fetch classic value..
it put RB it be worthless since no more classic

If I not mistaken, roadworthy cars above 30 years are classified as classic car and eligible for 50% road tax discount.

hehe hehe hehehe
flying 122...
macam ninja turtle...

check ipdusa.com for parts to do up your 122... handling wise.
they're reasonable AND shipping is CHEAP

another resource forum would be www.turbobricks.com
but be warned they play oni volvo turbos, newer volvo 5cyclinder engines, and v8.
they neva really have ppl who put in 1jz 2jz or rb...
but there are ppl there who are really pro on the car itself so mounting etc etc they can advice you ;)

hope it'll be another monster yah ;)

the volvo is sitting in my house for sometime already, sayang to throw away la, the body etc is still good. I also bought another 122 for spare parts (the whole car only costs RM1k) So happened my mech doing a skyline transplant soon (rb26 into an RB20) & he offered to put the current rb20 onto my volvo.

thanks for the info ccl! yea u should come to tt this friday, keen to see what u manage to do with your volvo! Have you ordered anything through the website before? What currency are the prices? US or UK?

cmng - for collectors it will be worthless but for me it will be fun! I don't plan to sell the car, it's a classic & want to do a sleeper car with it (looks almost like stock except for the engine transplant).

joeker - yea i think so too, have to prepare the chassis for the extra power.

so far.....
no i've not ordered anything from ipd bcoz i can get same stuff for cheaper price from board members such as 245gti
just ordered a set of polyutherane bushing for my car... he sells it about RM1k++ incl. shipping (NEW) whereas ipd would cost about RM200 more.
this fellow is based in canada. also got high cams with adj. gear from him...
but i guess for you... u gotto go IPD coz urs ain't a 240 :P

ps. IPD's price is in USD. however there are other volvo sites that sell in SEK. swedish koroena <-- or how u spell it.

I've a friend in Ipoh transplant a 2.5 lit. turbo from Toyota inside his 244 wagon.

The engine almost occupied all the spaces. I think interms of performance Toyota will be slightly better.

RM3k for RB20 is worth if together with workmanship. The last I checked in Ipoh half cut shop the half cut head alone cost RM3.2k Auto from Cefiro.

Iz it from half cut or just the engine alone?

Danny... please to be posting many2 updates on this project. I'm very interested as this is something i thought of long ago.

hmm....i just saw one mech transplant 1JZ inside vulva 240 sedan. suprislingly damn roomy the engine bay. still got place to comfortably fit in the other stuff. if u stratch off the toyota word from the engine cover, u would think its the original vulva engine.
not bad.
122 smaller or same sized engine bay???
danny...y dun u go for 1JZ or 2JZ??? more power to move the tank. coz i know 122 damn heavy, built like tank one. ehehhe.
that day say 2JZ halfcut 7-8k around there. 1JZ i think +/- rm3k. sommore the engine v smooth. no vibration one.

ramsing: can get 2JZ halfcut for 8k? i want.... auto tranny 2JZ.. got?

wah!?
blackie wanna change to auto??
u using manual now ark..... which model gearbox is that? blabla52?

i wish i can import in a bell housing to fit supra gearbox for my 240... its available from aussie... but i'm not rich :( anyone know who can custom make bellhousings in malaysia ark??

volvo's gearboxes aren't good for 300bhp++ my auto tranny now supports up to 250bhp+- only :(

wow. u want to put a 1jz in a vulva?

good luck. i think the most that would go in or out would be a baby's head.

:D

depending on who did the transplant loh ;)
yes done pretty lousily the whole engine bay can be in a mess and have no space to work on.
but when done properly its so much betta than any new cars on the road... whole engine bay cramp until baby's hand can't enter lah

actually... i'm lookin out for a fren.. the 2JZ auto halfcut... i'm lookin for a 6 speed tranny.. v160..got jalan?

moppy - it's a complete engine, gearbox, ecu, wiring etc everything that can make the car move but no body parts coz it is taken out from an old skyline which is undergoing an rb26 transplant.

ramsing - this one not monster project la..hehehh, just something to push the heavy car around. Also cost is a factor, it will be a stage by stage project starting from the engine transplant and brakes. Imagine it was running on a 1.5 litre nissan engine already inside, previously even I wanna exit the low yat plaza parking also almost cannot make it!

Battousai - sure I will take some pics before, during and after the transplant!

danny make sure u ask if the price includes everything.. aircon etc etc.. all the best in your new project man..

Danny - If what u said then it's worth. If u r looking for comfort perfomance driving in city area I think this is a very good choice and deal.
