My EK is just 1.6 SOHC Vtec (Auto). Which air filter I should go for? Drop in or Open Pod? K&N or Apexi? Hope you can give me some advices. Coz previous some say open pod is noisier and higher fuel consumption, but it can improve pick up. Does it suit my engine? What is the pros and cons for each type of filter?

Offers are welcome also.

Thank you.
Happy Chinese New Year also.... Gong Xi Fatt Chai!

allot, have did some survey + research a bit .. auto for go for drop in ~

I just book K&N at enoes. 20% discount! cheaper than rm250.

sasuke : go go ! book it before the discount is over.

Shong, good to see u online. Very quite here.

So, u decided on K&N not Apexi. So, what is the final price u got it from Enoes? When is the last day? I'm still in Sabah leh.
PM me.

i got it .. Rm306 ...after discount 20% is RM244.80
that's what i get.. it's cheap . the lowest i asked around is Rm250 (somemore need to neg with the boss dontknow how many times..) .. need to make booking because they have no more stock. "book for the price .."

everyone goes back for CNY er ~ later i'll going back hometown too.. cant online over there.. =/

sasuke,

for auto i think u better use back the one in box, original.

or the best for time being would be mugen air filter, which is very costly (i heart it cost you rm2k for new set) anyway, you can get it for rm200 +- for taiwan immitation type.

that's quite good and quite responsive.

in box = drop in rite?

Mugen wah... Where can get TW Mugen type?

Regarding spark plugs and plug cables...
Someone asked me to use NGK Iridium before. Some ask me to check my engine whether can support it or not. I hope someone can share their experience here also. Which one you think I should go for?

Yeap... mugen box filter is the ideal one.. dont need to worry about heat problems..
:D

autobags got ..

theres one forumer last time wanna sell it also .. RM2++ ..

but the box of course cheap .. the filter not .. if yur planning to use K&N, expect RM3++ per filter .. other brand dunno

yup .. :P

Keep in mind that you have to make sure your filter is small enough to fit into the mugen box.. I made a mistake by buying HKS open pod before finding out about the Mugen Air-box..

Yeap.. saw it at autobags during the last visit..

Another thing to keep note is "Mugen" has two types of air-box filters.. one is the closed type where you can't see the filter..

Another one is where you can see the filter but it is not open pod.. It looks more like the original filter but in a vertical position.. you can use aftermarket drop-in filters here..

Both are good enough for me.. :D
But with the variety of drop in filters increasing my best bet would be the latter..

no need to change to open pod lerrr!!!!! use your original box..then use drop in type ....prefer to use HKS..

previously use Apexi super power intake...now use drop in HKS with the original box!!!!! performance wise is great mannnnn...trust me!!!!

OK trust u. haha...
How much is HKS drop in filter in the market now? If using back the original box, will the hot air affect the performance?

slightly, won't give big impact to your heavy foot and high skill bro :D

why is it that open pod is not recommended for auto transmission? i had the same answer from N1 racing when i asked which is better for auto tranny. he told me for auto, use drop in and for manual use open pod.

but seriously i think if i use drop in, there won't be much or any performance gain at all. same amount of air going into the airbox anyways. any members care to clarify?

yup agree with you.if you driving auto trans better stick with stock drop in otherwise if you put open pod you might lose some top end and sacrifice some fuel consumption.
seriously, i have tested the K&N drop in before but unfortunately didnt feel any difference between stock original filter and K&n drop in, in terms of performance.

just my 2 cents

If this is the case, I rather spend the money in spark plugs with cables or extractor with piping. ;)
