Hello guys,
I just changed all absorbers for my ae101, kayaba (gas), but still, the handling n the stability are not there? isnt caused of the oem springs?(11 yrs already)
Any suggestion to improve it? Tq

Before you endeaver a suspension upgrade, I put up my suspension upgrade journey for your study.

You'll find the ups and downs of all sorts of suspension and reasons why they are good or not.

Allot of pages though because they are accumulated over 2 years of suspension modification.

aiyah, don't like that lah........

it doesn't matter if it is titan or not.... the fundamental theory must apply and if he can find his own brand which can follow all the rules of physics properly, then OK lor.

So the basic summary is

1) cannot compress coil before installing into car
2) cannot let coil loose and use helper before installig into car
3) cannot use progressive rate
4) absorber stroke around 15cm is good
5) ride height cannot less than 1 finger
6) absorber equilibrium for a resting car must have at least 5 cm up or down.

something like that....

The physical setup is more important than spring rate / absorber setting.

After good physical setup is achieve the "MOTION" can work properly within "natural" behaviour then concentrate on spring rate and absorber setting.

if the ride height, coil seating position, absorber stroke all not correct, no matter what is done on the spring rate and absorber cannot achieve good results.

the best value for money setup you can get is use levin ae101/ae111 springs with kayaba japan (pink/red box) ... so far this the best in terms of performance/comfort and price .. ahhahahaha .. if wan on budget but wan more performance .. go get halfcut absorber and use with eibach springs ... guarantee no regrets but maybe become more greedy got laaaaaaaaa :P

Sifu, how much for the new eibach springs or Japan KYB abs? Where can I get it? Thanx in advance. Cheers..

hELLO FAI,
I just went to top speed melawati y'day and their price 4 eibach is rm900,

Here's my take,

First determine the sort of ride experience you wish to have - like are you willing to sacrifice comfort for performance or all out comfort. One thing for sure, to get a good balance between confort and performance is damned difficult and expensive. For example, TEIN Drive Master Coilover is designed for such demand (road use), but the price tag is enough to buy two Corolla KE70!.

And if possible try to avoid Eibach Springs for AE101 Corolla, specially if you are running engines other than the standard 4A-FE. This is because all AE101/AE111 springs available here in Malaysia are meant for AE101/AE111 Corolla with stock engine that bear the right weight. If you have to use Eibach then look for AE101/111 Levin/Trueno sets (if you are running 20V engines). I would not use Eibach again (used twice before in both of my AE101 Corollas) because it is a progressive springs that can actually cause your ride to look a bit senget here and there. The last time I used Eibach was in combination with KONI shocks, yes it was a splendid combo. But after changing to 20V engine, the front end seem to be under stress to hold right - true enough after 3 months my front KONI shocks went bust TWICE - this is simply because the EIBACH springs are not strong enough to support the new weight and let the Shocks handle the full load.

So what do I recommend, for balanced performance go for Tokico Japan (GAS) built for Levin AE101 and combine it with Performance Springs like TEIN, Tanabe, Apex or KG/MM

If you are looking for outright performance, go for TEIN HA or Cusco Short Stroke Coilovers from Halfcut Shops - should be priced from RM1400 to RM2000 depending on condition.

Sifu wandy, where can find tokico japan? I mean other than halfcut?

This one u can PM Sifoo Levin818, he know where to get ori Tokico Japan in PJ area
