i've got a question here. for a person who has 4k salary monthly, what kind of car can this person get? i am asking on behalf of my friend. He just got promoted and his salary is 4k already. He want to own a 2001 s15 that cost rm130k. Possible or not possible for a person holding 4k salary each month buying a car that cost 130k or may be alittle above that range? Will loan approve for some 1 who has 4k salary? i am not too sure so im here to get some opinions.

What's the realistic car budget la for some 1 holding 4k salary to put it in other words. Thanks!

As far as i know, the safest situation when buying a car is monthly repayment must be 1/3 from salary. In this case, your friend's salary was 4k, and the ideal car repayment would be around 1300-1400 (even bank using this formula to provide car loan).

Is he married? If not, OF COURSE he can! Go ahead! Alot of people earning RM3k already bought those crappy cars like Altis and Civic, yes the new Civic. Why crappy? cos you're only getting a nice dashboard and 2 airbags thats it. Not even a sunroof. Get the Silvia. It's different buying cars like Silvia compared to the likes of Altis, or say a Vios or City. One would end up complaining when they have to service their 'appliances' but one wont when spending for their bellas. A car and a ride is different.

juz get promoted hard to get loan..wait for few months 1st...i think hv to show 3months pay slips...

and his bank acount book....so beter ask him save more money in d bank 1st...

and even he is not qualified for buying a silvia, he can just find a guarantor....

buying is easy but mantaining the car is a whole different ball game. I suggest he seriously talk to some owners before buying. Find out replacement parts cost as well as insurance and roadtax.

Wise advised dear phat7.. Red Devil.. safe you money and get car that not to expensive and to maintain.

Forget about driving a performance car, seriously you'll get bored driving it one day. Go get a track car if really wanna go for speed and improves your driving skill too. Get a economical car from point A to B which can save your wallet.

rm4k salary arr??... vr subjective ler...
depends on ur daily expenditure and ur net profit end of the month....

if ur bank dont have a single sen left every month, buy a bike also cannot la....

I'd suggest otherwise. RM4K really isn't alot nowadays. Petrol will kill you if indeed you decide to go for the S15. First and foremost, you'll need to set aside at least RM300 per month for maintenance. At least RM 400 for fuel. And there's the repayment that is about RM1300. So there you go, thats about RM2000 just for the car. That is taking up about half of your salary. Bear in mind, the RM4K salary might not been deducted for EPF and tax. So in actual, after deduction the salary could possibly be RM3.5k. And thats not even including your modifications cost. Come on, nobody buys the S15 just to keep it stock standard.

And there's also your everyday life expenses. Your meals, entertainment, buy gifts for gf, family and other misc expenses.

So unless you're living with your mum and dad and don't have any burden such as house loan, wife, kids or huge credit card bill. You could possibly pull thru the financing of the S15, though abit tight.

Realistically, a Waja or Gen 2 is more like it. Or at best, a Honda Jazz. Don't mean to pour cold water. Just my humble opinion.

My father has a car with sunroof. Trust me, in a whole year, i only open it like twice. That is also just to check whether its still working or not. Sun roofs are probably one of the best marketing gimmick a car manufacturer could use to tempt buyers into buying their car. I remember being so happy when i saw the car with sunroof and always thought how cool it would be cruising down the road with the roof opened. Only then i realise how fucking hot it gets when the sun shines into your head. In actual, sun roof is a total waste of money. If i were to buy any car that comes with a sunroof option, definitely that won't be an option for me.

But i don't understand your point on crappy cars like Civic/Altis. They both give superb handling and driveability. The Altis gives super reliability and is extremely comfortable when cruising in the highway. The Civic on the other hand has got a pretty decent engine thats not shy when revved. Its got nice handling too and even better if you take the 2.0 version. If you think paying 130K for Civic is crap, how about paying RM200K for a freaking monstrous 1 series or even a Beetle. Oh, i almost forgotten the Beetle comes with a sunroof, does it?

got 4k salary ah..... mind if i ask how long he worked and what his age?

cause i very interested in knowing his career advancement

what he studied and what job position he is currently doing and in what company?

if he below 25 got 4k salary is quite success.

firstly the chup must be a blue eye in the eyes of the employer, its also not where one's place of education (but it helps unfortunately).

my little brother-in-law is cruning up to RM5K (overtime & all) but his free time is limited. (& he's 25). spend a lot of time in market research & data collecting.

me? poor man. cannot afford myvi also.

rm4k figure alone is too subjective lar. If the guy is a 25 year old with no commitment, then go ahead get a silvia. But he's a 45 year old family man with kids in college, house loan to pay, insurance to pay, medical bill for his aging parents, all the bills and fees, RM4k you want to buy a Kenari also damn kau jialat liau...

it's not the salary that matters.....it's how much of 4k which he could set aside for the car...
i.e. maybe RM700-900 for loans and RM300-500 for fuel monthly. That adds up to around 1k plus as car expenses...
not to mentioned timely service and renewal of road tax and insurance....

U have to remember there's always other commitments and expenses.
Like mine; around RM1200 on car alone. RM400 for house rental than another RM700 or so for daily food expenses.....just calculate....how much do I have if I got only 4k!
Mind you this doesn't include phone bills; "other" entertainments and timely services; not to mention occasional car "hiccups"...

Think wise and don't think that with RM4k salary you could afford sports car or cars above RM80k.......

High living cost now with the higher inflation and fuel charges.......

bank scoring system is 1 heck of the complex system, and different bank hold their own scoring system, of course with strong gaurantor, everything will be easier.

Questions
1. How much is his margin of finance? (50%? 70%? 90%?)
2. 4K net or gross salary? either 1 still not much if he is living in KL.
3. Does he have other loan with him (house? personal?)
4. Credit Card record? Good or bad?

but prepare for the following things

1. Maintenance of a 5 years old car sometime can be heavy, ESPECIALLY sport car, coz you never know what the previous owner DID/DONE

2. He will get bond for next 5/7/9 years. He plan to get marry?

3. Mod. Got S15, your hand get itchy when you know new parts...

i believe you don't hope to see your friend drive S15, but eat maggie mee everyday
